Frequently Asked Questions
What does SymLink Helper do?
SymLink Helper is a lightweight macOS menu bar app that lets you create symbolic links without using Terminal. Drag files or folders onto the menu bar icon, choose a destination folder, and create links in a few clicks.
Do I need to use Terminal commands?
No. The app gives you a simple visual workflow for creating symlinks.
Which platforms are supported?
SymLink Helper is currently built for macOS (15.6 or later).
Can I link both files and folders?
Yes. You can create symlinks for both files and directories, and you can drop multiple items in one batch.
What happens if a file with the same name already exists in the destination?
The app does not overwrite existing files. It automatically creates a collision-safe name (for example, file-1.txt, file-2.txt).
Do I need to choose a destination every time?
Yes. You select the destination folder before each create action, which keeps the workflow explicit and avoids accidental writes.
Does SymLink Helper upload my files or collect tracking data?
No. The app runs locally on your Mac and works on files/folders you explicitly select.
What permissions does the app need?
Only user-selected file access: the files/folders you drop and the destination folder you choose.
