Announcing our all new website, changes to support and feedback and UniShare on Android (alpha)

Anyone who runs a company knows that there are quite some challenges to solve. One of them is to provide a web presence that is attractive to users and potential customers. On top, collecting feedback and provide support is another challenge.

Fresh paint for our website

We totally redesigned our website using a fresh and flat design and restructured the way you get access to information for our applications as we are moving more and more cross platform. Using a one stop menu that is available on all pages and uses a menu overlay similar to what mobile applications use, we are improving the navigation on our website.

Of course, all features are also available when you visit our site from you mobile device as we made it fully responsive. Take a look, and if you have feedback for us, just go to the support page where you can submit your feedback. The website is constantly evolving, so your feedback may help to improve it.

Changes to support and feedback

Support and feedback has always been important to us. Back in the days, UserVoice was the perfect partner for us, so we built our support and feedback mechanisms on their platform. Due to changes in the company strategy of UserVoice, they are heavily focusing on big enterprise customers, leaving out the small and medium businesses like we are. That’s why we sadly need to move things away from their platform. We already ported our knowledge base to our own website, and provide an easy to use feedback form on our support page.

But this is only the beginning. We haven’t decided about our final solution, because we want the solution to be easy and usable on all devices. For the moment, we keep things concentrated on our website, as it is responsive and works well on all platforms. We will also push out some updates to our apps where we remove the UserVoice part and replace it with a direct link our website (for the time being). No worries about the ideas you all submitted to our UserVoice, we are keeping them all in our To-Do-list.

UniShare made its way to Android

It took some time, but finally we are happy to announce that UniShare is now available on Android as an alpha build. An alpha build can be considered as a working prototype that may have some bugs, but works mostly. Because of this and because it does not have yet all features of the Windows 10 version, we are not making it generally available. If you want to help us to make the app better, feel free to download the app and use it (and also provide feedback).

We just launched our first App on Android

Times are hard, especially if a company is relying on the Microsoft stack for developing applications. Microsoft has a clear vision for its “One Windows”-platform, but is struggling in the mobile space. That´s why we decided to go cross-platform in the second half of 2016.

After the launch of UniShare for the Universal Windows Platform, we got asked to develop the official Android- and iOS-Application for the German News-site WindowsUnited.de. With our plan in mind to expand our reach anyways, we agreed and started immediately with that project.

The app was already out there as a public beta. Today we are proud to announce the general availability of the official WindowsUnited app for Android on the Google Play Store. The app not only allows you to just read the news articles, but let’s you also interact with other users via the integrated comment system. The app integrates on a lot of edges with the operating system, be it for sharing, opening links or share articles from within the app. We also tried to follow the already available Windows App (which is developed by brothers agency (formerly known as cee)) as far as possible in terms of functionality. Here are some screen shots from the app:

What’s next?

We have several things on our to-do list, one of them is to bring WindowsUnited to iOS. Also, we already started to bring UniShare to Android, like you can see from these screen shots:

We are NOT cancelling our investment into the Windows platform, but we will keep expanding to the other mobile platforms as well. Stay tuned, we will keep you informed about the progress we make with our projects.

Saying ‘Goodbye 2016’ (and a small preview into 2017)

This year was again a turbulent one for us. We had a few ups and downs, but overall we enjoyed it. What happened this year at MSiccDev?

Bringing UniShare to the PC with the UWP version

Tutorial_07

This year, we finally did the next step and brought UniShare to the PC with launching our all new written UWP app. We had a great team of beta testers finding out a ton of bugs, helping to make UniShare a powerful and great app. Thanks to all of you again, without your help UniShare would not be as awesome as it is now. We kept improving UniShare and added some cool new features, including translations into more languages, a connection to our SimpleLeet Converter as well as a Translation feature into Klingon.

But we do not stop here. The current situation of Windows Mobile (formerly known as Windows Phone) is difficult. That’s why we had to move on and started development of UniShare for Android. Here is a sneak preview:

Releasing the official WindowsUnited.de app as public beta in the Google Play Store

Also this year, we published Windows United for Android, which is our first public Android application in the Google Play Store. WindowsUnited is a German Microsoft news page, and we are happy to develop their official apps for both Android and iOS. The Android application is a public beta, everyone can download it for free from the store. We target a final release in early 2017 and will also launch an iOS version in 2017.

We will continue to work on these two projects in 2017, and you will see also some new stuff from our side.

So, let’s say goodbye to 2016 and look ahead to 2017 by wishing you and your families a happy new year.
